Perfect summer tips : drinks to keep you hydrated and your kids happy

Since we have switched to the summer lifestyle , I have literally to many summer ideas to share with you then the time to type. So I decided to wrap up a Perfect Summer Series for you all to enjoy! ( I know, I know, that’s exactly what you’ve been waiting for).

After recently posting summer dinner inspirations, and healthy Popsicles, it’s time for drinks to keep you hydrated and your kids happy! Because let’s face it, even though we all know how water is good and healthy,┬áit also gets rather boring after a while ( I know, I may sound like a second grader here, but this is the truth).

So these are my three recent favourite summer ice teas, all easy, all healthy and all deliciously refreshing !

Mint lemonade

Mint lemonade :

3 cups cold water
4 lemons
1 cup fresh mint
1 teaspoon sugar ( optional)

Mix it all together, and put it in the fridge for at least 30 minutes. Add ice cubes before serving.

And if like me you love a good cup of herbal tea, here is a great way to enjoy it even during the hot summer days :

Red tea & fruit ice tea

Red tea & fruits ice tea:

Red tea of your choice ( I used my recent discovery Zyo)
2 cups water
Frozen blueberries

Prepare the tea as the instructions indicate. Let it brew, and then add a a cup of ice cubes, frozen blueberries and raspberries. And I’ll tell you just one more secret : this ice tea is good with any kind of red tea, but with this Carmel & pear Zyo tea that I had on hand it’s amazing!

As you can see, my kids totally loved this one!

How to deal with heat

And now the watermelon. (Yes, I may be using it a lot lately.) It’s healthy, delicious, and not only for kids ( oh, the good old times when vodka induced watermelon was a summer party must..and now if you’d pay me, I wouldn’t have I getting old? Hmm.. )

Easy watermelon lemonade

Watermelon lemonade :

2 cups watermelon cubes
1 cup cold water
Juice from 1 lime

Mix it all together, add ice ( I use ice cubes with blueberries inside, because it’s my summer obsession to add blueberries to everything. Yes. And it’s a superfood, so why not?)


So now, pick your favourite ice tea, grab some frozen Popsicles, and go make a picnic in a garden!

Recently I’ve been feeling like the unhealthy habits were taking over my routine (all the grilling and the store bought ice cream are to blame). So I decided that it’s time to replace the sugar loaded summer treats with these fruit & yoghurt healthy Popsicles. It’s already third time that I’ve been making them, and we’re not a tiny bit bored.

They are creamy, sweet and packed with only healthy ingredients! They take not more than five minutes to prepare, and I feel like I’m really saving money on top of it.

And I don’t know a kid who doesn’t beg for ice cream all summer long. So with these home-made Popsicles you can be the cool mom and the health orientated mom, all at once! And if you don’t have the Popsicle moulds, you can either get these here, or you could use small plastic yoghurt cups with a plastic spoon. Either way, I think that it’s really worth making Popsicles at home: so much better for your health and for your wallet!

Ingredients :

1 cup Lemon Greek yoghurt
1 soft banana
1 cup raspberries

Mix it, and freeze of at least 6 hours. So simple.

And I encourage you to explore different tastes too: vanilla yoghurt with strawberries, berry yoghurt and blueberries, or natural yogurt with honey and bananas.

Fast and easy summer recipes

When the weather gets really hot I’m usually completely loosing my interest in cooking. I just don’t feel like spending time in the kitchen while it’s so hot outside. And honestly, I’d rather play with my girls in the garden, or lay and look at the clouds with them. But unfortunately, I do need to feed these little monsters every day. And they require five meals a day! ( I know, it’s horrid).

So I’m trying to find ways to cook less, or more of the no-fuss, super fast and simple meals. That includes a lot of grilling, some salads, and using some ready-made food (I know, it’s bad).

Here is my list of our recent favourite easy and fast summer meals:

Easy lunch : egg and avocado sandwich :

Rye bread
Ripe avocado
Boiled egg
Cocktail tomatoes

Place sliced avocado on toasted rye bread, add sliced egg, radish and tomato. Done!

Fast and easy summer side dishes:

Grilling is my favourite way of cooking in the summer, but I usually get stuck in the boring routine of side dishes for our grilled meat. These my recent discoveries, 100% kid approved :

Fiddleheads :

1/4 cup olive oil
1 table-spoon maple sirup
1/2 tablespoon lime juice

Wash through fully the fiddleheads. Cook in boiling water until soft. Add dressing and serve. So simple.

Broccolini :

Fresh broccolini
Olive oil

Cook the broccoli I until soft, mix with olive oil (be generous) and salt. This is the simplest side dish ever, yet my daughter was licking her fingers, she loved it so much!

Fresh summer salad:

Romain lettuce
Cherry tomatoes
Fresh dill

Avocado oil ( or olive oil)
Lemon juice
Maple sirup

Mix wasted and cut veggies together. Add dressing. Serve.

Chocolate raspberry cupcakes :

I do love to bake from scratch. But as I mentioned before, summer isn’t the time when I feel like spending a lot of time in the kitchen. So this lovely chocolate raspberry cupcake is actually just a cake mix with some upgrades.

Easy and fast summer recipes

Chocolate cake mix ( I used Gogo Quinoa )
Dark chocolate

Follow the instructions on the package, pour the mixture in the cupcake liners, and place 3 to 4 raspberries in each cupcake. Bake. Melt dark chocolate, and pour over cooled muffins. Sprinkle with sprinkles. Pretend you made them from scratch.
