Coastal cottage vibes summer home tour – how to decorate any home so it feels like a retreat

Welcome to my summer home tour! This year I’m really feeling the breezy coastal cottage vibes. I think it’s the proximity with the lakes and nature here that has guided my decor choices and confirmed my love for cottage retreat homes! So let me invite you inside- and then make sure to check my talented friends beautiful home tours!

My living room- open space- kitchen and dining room area are where we spend most time – and where the coastal vibes are mostly felt! I added lots of blue accents and natural elements so this room feels breezy and cozy at the same time now!

My three tips for creating a coastal retreat vibe in your home:

  • Stick to a white & blue colour palette with small pops of other colours
  • Add some stripes and florals for the cottage laid back feel
  • Layer the space with books and pillows that invite everyone to sit down and relax

I love decorating with potted plants and fresh flowers- so while I’m waiting for my garden flowers to bloom I decided to use a potted lavender plant here- I will enjoy its scent for a week or so and then once my peonies are in bloom and ready to be cut I’ll be planting this lavender plant in my garden!

Save money hot tipinstead of buying cut flowers – plant your own, or buy flowers that you can replant in your garden and enjoy over the years!

My dining room is just in the middle of our open space- between the kitchen and the living room- I added some colorful candles and a vase with flowers ( a mix of real fresh leaves from my garden and faux peonies ’place holders’) for a cottage coastal centerpiece.

And now- the kitchen! As you might know I just love collecting mugs and plates and pottery and so changing these on my shelves is one of my greatest joys! I added some fresh blooms and little nods to the sea among it and I must say it feel so cheerful and restful !

How to add a cottage a coastal vibe in your kitchen:

  • Display mixed and matched tableware
  • Add a touch of whimsy with unique thrifted pieces
  • Add coastal inspired art
  • Place potted plants among your dishes

I won’t be showing you around my kids messy bedrooms this time around but I want to share our master bedroom with you! I have recently switched my light in here- I wanted to balance out the curved furniture with a more simple and organic shape. I must say it feel definity so very coastal now!

And lastly let me take you outside! Our lower deck has recently got a facelift and now it feels like a summer cottage retreat- with a potting bench ready for me to replant flowers, and a rocking chair to sip the ice coffee on, it’s definitely my new favorite space around our house now!

Budget friendly decor tip– there’s nothing paint cannot save- as long as its structurally sound- so if you see an old chair on the side of the street take it & spray paint it! The potting bench here and the blue rocking chair where both salvaged from the street- and now they are charming additions to my cottage summer retreat ( aka my home!)

I hope you enjoyed a walk through my coastal cottage vibes summer home tour! Now make sure to check my blogging friends lovely homes too!
